Yankees LF Potential Trade Target Jake McCarthy

The New York Yankees have a decision to make in regards to their outfield, and it appears that the team is considering a trade for Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jake McCarthy. McCarthy, a 25-year-old left-handed batter, is a local guy from Scranton, PA and was drafted out of the University of Virginia. He has shown power to both sides of the field and has impressive speed, as demonstrated by his 23 stolen bases last season.

While McCarthy's numbers from last season - a .283 average, 8 home runs, 43 RBIs, and 23 stolen bases - aren't eye-popping, they are still above average and indicate that he is a player with potential. Additionally, McCarthy wouldn't be a free agent until 2029, which means that the Yankees wouldn't have to worry about losing him anytime soon.

One potential concern with McCarthy is his strikeout rate. In 99 games last season, he struck out 76 times, which is a little high. However, his on-base percentage of .342 indicates that he still manages to reach base despite the strikeouts.

Another option for the Yankees is free agent Andrew Benintendi, who has reportedly garnered the team's interest. However, there are rumors that Benintendi may not want to play in a big city, and the Yankees would likely have to offer him a contract worth at least $100 million over five or six years to bring him on board.

Ultimately, the decision will come down to how much the Yankees value McCarthy and whether they think he is worth the potential cost. If the team believes in his potential and is willing to take a chance on him, then a trade for McCarthy could be a smart move. On the other hand, if the Yankees are looking for a more established player, then going after Benintendi or another free agent may be the better option.
